Bridging HCA Healthcare and Mission Health

The Challenge

HCA Healthcare needed to organically connect its national brand to Mission Health and the Western North Carolina community. Equally important was an internal objective: to recognize, inspire, and foster a renewed sense of pride among the hospital's frontline workers.

Strategy
Operating under our foundational "We Show Up" brand architecture, we developed a comprehensive campaign anchored by the tagline "It Shows". While patient survivor stories are powerful, they are also highly expected in healthcare marketing. To truly stand out and prove that Mission Hospital's legacy of deep humanity would only grow stronger under the HCA network, we flipped the perspective.

Instead of focusing solely on the patient's outcome, we zeroed in on the caregiver's motivations and actions. For example, while a patient experiencing the birth of a baby is a wonderful moment, we focused our lens on what it means for a nurse to hand that infant to the mother for the very first time. This unique, caregiver-first perspective informed everything from the copywriting to the visual composition, emphasizing the essential character of compassion, commitment, and community of the people doing the work.

Execution
The campaign’s broadcast spots celebrated the visible power of this human connection, demonstrating that when a caregiver finds their purpose, never gives up on someone, and brings joy to others, "it shows".   To turn this brand sentiment into tangible community action, we launched an experiential extension called the Show Love Project online and within the hospital walls. By collecting thousands of notes of appreciation, we invited the public into a movement of gratitude that reminded caregivers of their immense value.   (Note: For a deeper dive into the community activation and experiential design, please view The Show Love Project case study here.)
