Strategy: The Power of Home
Rather than competing on the prestige of being a distant national destination, we leveraged HCA's vast national network to flip the script. We realized that forcing a patient to travel hundreds of miles away from their support system strips them of their greatest asset: home.We developed a brand platform built on the concept of "Fighting for home. Fighting from home". The strategy positioned HCA's ability to deliver global resources to local care as a profound medical advantage. We anchored the narrative in the deeply human truth that having your personal support system near you, and still being able to engage in the things that matter most, leads to far better outcomes than fighting alone in an unfamiliar city.

Execution
I directed an artful visual aesthetic that utilized minimalist white space to frame our imagery, presenting the subject matter seriously, but never sterilely. Aligned with our emotional "We Show Up" architecture, we utilized original poetry to narrate the broadcast, video, and radio spots. This rhythmic prose served a strategic dual purpose. First, it brilliantly juxtaposed the clinical realities of cancer like molecular profiling with the healing power of "warm hug comfy couch favorite pillow therapy," proving that a morning chemo session didn't have to mean missing that evening's softball game.

Second, for our internal manifestos, the poetry softened the hard statistics of HCA's massive network. It allowed us to flex the impressive facts of our scale and resources without coming across as corporately boastful. To further support the patient journey, we translated the campaign into premium "Power of Home" leave-behind card kits giving patients physical reassurance that they would never fight alone.

The Challenge

HCA Healthcare sought to standardize and unite its entire oncology service line under the banner of the Nashville-based Sarah Cannon Cancer Network. The business challenge was formidable: how could HCA compete with world-renowned, destination cancer centers like MD Anderson or the Mayo Clinic? Initially, the instinct was to compete on scale, but we needed a narrative that made HCA's offering uniquely compelling to patients facing the most terrifying diagnosis of their lives.
